In and Around Falmouth: Summer Happenings!

July 26 – August 2: Woods Hole Film Festival. Various Locations – check its website for the most up-to-date information, or call 508-495-3456.

August 2: Sandwich Blueberry Festival. Green Briar Nature Center & Jam Kitchen. Enjoy a special blueberry dessert and a demonstration of blueberry jam making. Desserts are $3.00 and all proceeds benefit educational programs. 11am-2pm, 6 Discovery Hill Road, Sandwich. Call 508-888-6870 for more information.

August 9: 18th Annual Falmouth Walk, 3.2 miles, to benefit local charities. Walk starts at Town Hall Square in Falmouth at 10am. Pleae pre-register on Friday evening, August 8th, between 5-8pm in front of the Quarterdeck Restaurant on Main Street.

August 10: Falmouth Road Race, starts in Woods Hole at 10am and ends in Falmouth Heights. Call 508-548-7000 for more information.

August 15: Trolley Tour of Bourne’s Historic Villages, 9:30 – 11:30am touring Buzzards Bay, Bournedale, North and South Sagamore. 1-3pm touring Bourne, Monument Beach, Pocasset, and Cataumet. Tickets for each tour are $15.00, or $25.00 for both tours (all day). Please call 508-759-5034 for more information.

August 16: Beach and Trail Walk, Ellisville Harbor State Park, Plymouth. 10am. No registration necessary. More information available by calling Sandwich Recreation at 508-888-4361.

August 17: Car Show, sponsored by the Falmouth Classic Car Club, in front of the band shell at Falmouth Harbor beginning at noon. Rain Date: August 24th.

August 23: Annual Antiques Show and Sale, on the grounds of Falmouth Museums on the Green, 10am-4pm. More than three dozen antiques dealers from around New England will be displaying and selling their wares. Admission charged. Call 508-548-4857 for more information.

August 23 & 24: All-Wheel Car Show, 9am-5pm at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds, Route 151 in East Falmouth. Call 508-428-5230 for more information.


Tuesdays: Tuesday Morning Walks, A 90-minute walk around the Village Green and through the Old Burying Ground describes the town’s early days. Meet at Hallett Barn, 55 Palmer Avenue, Falmouth, at 10am. Throughout July and August. Call 508-548-4857 for more information.

Thursdays: Falmouth Town Band Concerts, June 26 – August 28, 7:00-8:30pm at the band shell in Marine Park on Scranton Avenue, Falmouth.

Fridays: Friday Night Concerts, July 11-August 29, 6pm, Peg Noonan Park, Main Street, Falmouth. Bring your own blanket or chair.

Falmouth Happenings: June 30 – July 7, 2008

Cape Cod Baseball League – the Falmouth Commodores play Hyannis at Fuller Field in Falmouth Tuesday at 7pm, then head to Wareham on Wednesday, and to Chatham on Thursday.  All games are at 7pm.

Lobster on The Lawn – every Monday from 5:30-7:30pm at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. $15.00 includes lobster roll, drink, pickle, chips, and pie. For kids, there’s PB&J sandwiches, chips and drinks at no charge.

Falmouth Fireworks – July 4, 9pm – Fireworks are presented from Falmouth Heights Beach and can be viewed from several area points throughout Falmouth. Rain Date July 5.

Falmouth Historic Walking Tour – July 1 at 10am. Meet at Museums on the Green’s Hallett Barn Visitor’s Center for a guided tour of Falmouth historical sites.

Bike and Carriage Parade – 11am, July 4. Children and families dress in Uncle Sam costumes and parade down Falmouth’s Main Street from the Village Green to Peg Noonan Park. Prizes will be awarded.

Open Mic/Jam Night – Coffee Obsession, 110 Plamer Avenue, Falmouth, beginning July 3 and continuing the first and third Thursdays of each month from 7-10pm. Hosted by Flipside. All ages and misic styles are welcome, Sound system, PA, keyboard, drums available.

Falmouth Farmer’s Market – featuring farmers and food artisans from the area selling vegetables, fruit, eggs, cheese, baked goods, plants, anmd other produce. Thursdays from noon-6pm through October 23. Peg Noonan Park, Main Street, Falmouth.

Family Story Hour – Falmouth Public Library, July 3, 10-11am. Join Miss Judith for stories and songs!

Highfield Hall “Wine on Wednesdays” Culinary Program – Wednesdays in July from 5:30-7pm. Each session will feature a selection of wines to sample, information about each wine, and hors d’ouvres. The first WOW event on July 2nd will feature a selection of affordable $12.00 and under wines appropriate for summer entertaining. The cost of each session is $25.00 and advance reservations are encouraged by calling 508-495-1878.

Friday Night Concerts in the Park – Peg Noonan Park, Main Street, Falmouth. Every Friday in July and August at 6pm. This week, July 4, fiddler Nikki Engstrom, one half of the musical duo Stanley and Grimm, will perform interpretations of traditional music such as jigs and reels.

Symphonic Concert and Fireworks Show – Saturday July 5, 5:30 – 9:45pm, Aselton Park overlooking Hyannis Harbor, Hyannis. Enjoy musical favorites performed by the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra. The evening will end with a breathtaking 30-minute fireworks display. Free!

Cajun Night in North Falmouth – On Saturday, July 5, at 7:30pm, the Buzzard’s Bayou Cajun and Zydeco Dance Band will perform at the North Falmouth Congregational Church, 155 Old Main Road in North Falmouth. Homemade desserts will also be available for sale. Tickets are $15.00 (no charge for children under 8.) and are on sale from 9am-noon Monday-Friday at the church office.
