Post Hurricane Irene

August 31, 2011

Good Morning!  The Falmouth Resorts made it through Hurricane Irene with minimal issues!  The town did not evacuate at all, but they did offer a shelter at the Falmouth High School during the tropical storm.  Captain’s Quarters did not lose power at all, however they did lose telephone service and cable.  Both of these were back up and running late last night.  The entrance to Surfside was flooded which forced the road to be closed for the night, and they lost power for a few hours as well.  Considering the tremendous power Irene had, we were VERY lucky.  Many residents still do not have power at their homes.  There was debris on the roads, but the town has done an excellent job clearing the roads.  Some of the beach roads are still a work in progress as the sand was pushed into the roads and there was flooding.  The beaches do have a good deal of seaweed and shells/rocks and the town will most likely focus on the beach clean up as soon as the roads and other safety issues have been addressed.

THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM

August 27, 2011

These pictures were taken from the pool area looking out on Falmouth Heights Beach today, August 27, 2011.  It is extremely foggy out, and there is a mist in the air.  Soon we should be expecting rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.  The resort is half full, and the rest of the guests are waiting til Irene has passed through.  As Irene is being tracked today, it appears she will lose strength as she approaches Cape Cod, we will still have Tropical Storm conditions, and the possibility for storm surges is high.  Please keep in mind, anyone travelling on or off the Cape- the Bourne & Sagamore Bridges will close when the winds exceed 70 MPH, and may close sooner depending on how bad the weather is.  While online trying to continue to check the weather I found an interesting application that The Weather Channel offers- a “Hurricane Tracker”, here is the link: http://www.weather.com/weather/hurricanecentral/tracker
