Work on the Cape Cod Canal highway bridges in Buzzards Bay, Mass., will be completed under the terms of a $8,549,000 contract issued recently by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District.

The work on the Sagamore and Bourne bridges will be accomplished by Aetna Bridge Company, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The project will take about 12 months to complete and is scheduled to start in mid-November 2011.

The work will be located above the deck, and below the deck of the two bridges that cross the Cape Cod Canal. Work can proceed while traffic uses the bridges, but traffic control during selected times will be needed. Any changes or impacts to traffic using the bridges will be published by the Corps when a schedule is developed and the information will be available on the Corps’ Cape Cod Canal webpage under Bridge Alerts at: http://www.nae.usace.army.mil/recreati/ccc/news/bridgealerts.htm.
