Jan. 2, 2011: Cindy Kallet & Grey Larsen: We’re pleased to welcome the return of this versatile duo. Cindy is a highly respected singer, songwriter and guitarist with a compellingly clear, powerful alto voice and long connections to Martha’s Vineyard. Grey is a singer and multi-instrumentalist, widely recognized as one of America’s finest players of Irish flute. Their repertoire features Cindy’s inspiring original songs, traditional Irish, old-time and Scandinavian fiddle tunes, and more. The music is deeply rooted in tradition, interwoven with the renaissance and baroque music in which both were immersed while growing up. But they also have a humorous side, as evidenced by their latest single, “Back When We Were All Machines.” Cindy and Grey blend their voices with crisp melodic guitar accompaniment, fiddle, flute, whistle, concertina, and harmonium, adding stories and anecdotes that put the music into a personal context. The result, as one reviewer said, “leaves an audience walking away smiling, uplifted, and humming a tune.”
